exciting news….!

Commander’s Palace in New Orleans was voted Top Decor in the 2009 New Orleans Zagat Survey.  It was also just on TV as the location for the season finale of Top Chef.

it feels braggy to say so, but…. yay me!

calendars

i know that january is almost over.  and i should have bought a calendar in december.  but i didn’t.  so i’m looking for one now.  and the options are awesome.  (and many are on sale!)

from Umber Dove.  (who also has some very pretty pillows.)

these from happify double as postcards too.  how clever!

pretty dandelions from hello handmade paperie.  (and i like the hanger too.)

strange and wonderful from the aptly named oddball press.

and last but not least….

from the wild unknown.  i had her bunny calendar last year (which rishi LOVED.)  and i’ve heard she lives around here.  maybe i’ll try her feather calendar this year.

if there’s anyone reading this: what do you think?

tea towels!

we used to live in a tiny brooklyn apartment with the tiniest joke of a galley kitchen where we did little but boil water.  now that we’ve quit the city for the country life and have a regular human-sized kitchen where food actually gets cooked, it makes sense to do things like buy towels for said kitchen.

there was a kid in high school that we called spooner. i don’t know why. if i was still friends with him, i’d buy him this towel. since i’m not, i think i’ll go ahead and buy it for myself.

do the dishes, indeed.

i’m feeling this tea towel. so simple and clean. as doing the dishes should be. (does that make sense?)

i’m also feeling this one. strange and wonderful. it’s on the pricey side though. i’d likely not use it much.

nice color. very mod and kitchen-y. reminds me of rishi’s blocks.

there you have it. in case you were wondering.

vintage box of blocks

i love this box of blocks – great tomato red color and mod graphics.  the blocks themselves are lovely and softened with years of play as they used to belong to my husband when he was a boy.  my son, rishi, loves them.  (that’s him speeding past in the pic.)  thankfully, my mother-in-law had the foresight to save them all these years!

it’s what’s for dinner

we bought a deep freeze and half a side of (grass-fed, antibiotic and hormone-free, happy) beef from a friend’s farm.  what a long long way i’ve come.

so, along these bovine lines….

marimekko does it again. what i love about this fabric is the scale of it. this is a single 104″ repeat!  the perfect size for curtain…. hmmmmm…….!
